My first memory of creating art was as a toddler in my great-grandmothers house in New Jersey. I remember drawing on the walls with a pencil behind a big black chair. I like to think of it as my first artistic mural, however, I’m sure my great-grandmother didn’t think the same.
Like many artists, I was born with the hunger to create. It is a natural energy embedded in my spirit that I cannot ignore. I believe it is a gift from our Creator that allows me to converse to the Universe in my own special language. A language composed of color, texture, spirit and emotion. It is an energy that exists within every breath I take. If I don’t express this energy, I feel as though my soul becomes divided from the Universe.
I am influenced by religion, spirituality, jewelry, music, family, found objects, and other great artists. I use these things to convey my feelings or emotions. I like my work to be colorful, textured, light-hearted and whimsical. I enjoy the process of decorating or building the canvas with found objects. Not too long ago, my mother handed me a zip-loc bag full of out-dated earrings. I was delighted to be given what others would call “junk”. I recycled the luminous metals, stones, and beads into what you see today. Some paintings materialized by my need to articulate a certain emotion, then the jewelry became its companion. Other paintings emerged by looking at the form of the jewelry and imagining something new. As a result, each painting holds a little piece of me or the world in which I live. I hold great honor in sharing my Art from the Inner Spirit with you!
After moving to Arizona with my parents in 1993, I attended Arizona State University where I received a Fine Arts Degree. Currently, I live and paint in Chandler, Arizona with my husband and son (my muses). I imagine the day I find my son drawing on my walls with a pencil. My heart tells me, if that day shall come, I will proudly introduce to him a canvas and some paint.
